Nutricia was born when a nutritional scientific discovery took place in 1896.
In the late 19th century, poor nutrition was seen as one of the leading reasons for infant mortality in Europe. Mothers who were unable to breastfeed turned to animal milks which were inappropriate for children and possibly transmitted diseases.
The Founding Father of Modern Infant Formula
One of the 2 founders, German professor Alexander Backhaus, researched breastmilk and developed a formula suitable for babies that could be better digested than cow’s milk.
Later, Dr Johannes van der Hagen and his brother Martinus got exclusive rights from the professor to create the formula, naming the company Nutricia, which became one of the first in pioneering medical nutrition.
Nutricia continues to work together with the healthcare closely to make sure that nutrition makes up a key feature of patient care.
Its products span across a wide range, including:
Nutricia Fortijuice (Blackcurrant/Green Apple flavours)
Aptamil Formula Powder
